Good nutrition will not replace good surgery, but it helps your body do what you are asking of it. Our dietitian shares the basics here.
Before surgery
Eat regular meals with plenty of vegetables and protein
Stay well hydrated
Check any supplements with your surgeon, as some should be paused
After surgery
Appetite can dip for a few days. Small, frequent meals with protein, fruit and fibre are easier than large ones.
What to limit
Alcohol and very salty foods can increase swelling and interfere with medication. Your discharge notes will list what to avoid.
Begin
Considered change, planned together.
Start with a private video consultation. A surgeon reviews your goals, answers your questions and tells you honestly whether surgery is the right step.
